Bath Chairs For Safety In Your Walk In Bath Tub

Posted by GuestWriter on July 29th, 2010

Taking your bath seems to be just one of those standard rights of people everywhere. And when you get to be a senior citizen and at times you need a little extra help, you should still be able to take a bath whenever you want. There is certainly no reason you cannot enjoy this particular small delightful luxury even if you are a bit on the senior side. And bath chairs were developed strictly to assist with doing that.
A lot of people now are having those walkin bathtubs installed in their homes. These are the kind of tubs that have the doors on the side so that it is really easy to step into the tub. The big advantage is that you don’t have to step up high to get in the tub like with a regular bathtub.
But to use these kinds of walk in tubs, you need to have some sort of seat to sit on when you are bathing so you don’t have to sit on the floor of the bathtub. This is what a bath chair is for. Some of the walk in tubs have seats built right into them, but many of them do not. It would be kind of silly to invest in the installation of a walk in bath tub making it easy to get into the tub, and then have to sit all the way down on the floor of the tub. That would not be of much help to avoid the pain of bending your knees.
When you go to various websites to see what they have in the way of bath seats, you can tell right away there are many options for these. Some are most like stools because they don’t have backs on them. These are simple in style and lightweight.
Some designs of bath seats have spine support for you to lean against so that you can have a more pleasant bathing experience. And several of the really better ones have padded seats.. The chair cushions on these are made of waterproof vinyl fabric so they will not get all soaked with water during your bath and they dry off without difficulty. There are even several which feature cutout seats to permit washing your more private areas.
If you might have a little trouble moving around easily, you can get a bath chair for your walk in bath tub which has little wheels on the legs. That way you can move around the tub to use the control and move over to the door when its time to get out of the tub.
Bath chairs are ideal for some senior citizens because they allow them to take a bath without experiencing knee strains and back pains. Some of the models even come with armrests to give you an extra measure of safety in your tub. Relaxing in the perfect warm bath in comfort and safety, nothing could be better than that.

How Your Dentist In Toronto Can Help With TMD

Posted by GuestWriter on July 29th, 2010

Do you have a hard time chewing your food? Or does it hurt when you open your mouth to yawn or speak? If so, you may be suffering from a joint disease known as temporomandibular disorder (or TMD). Consulting a dentist in Toronto is your best option to get the appropriate treatment for jaw pain.

Possible Causes of TMD

While the real cause of TMD may not yet be fully understood, the following factors are known to contribute to the condition:

* Stress: Emotional stress can lead to unintentional teeth clenching and tightening of muscles around the jaws. Prolonged muscle tension can eventually lead to pain in the area.

* Clenching or grinding teeth: These actions are accompanied by tightening of the jaw muscles, which if done often or habitually, can cause muscle pain.

* Facial trauma or injury: A strong blow to the face may fracture the jaw or misalign it causing pain during mouth movement..

* Joint diseases: such as rheumatoid arthritis can affect the jaw joints and muscles causing pain with movement.

* Incorrect jaw growth: which causes misaligned teeth can also make it difficult to bite and chew and lead to TMD.

* Other factors: Worn or missing teeth, gum disease, ill-fitting dentures and biting hard objects may also lead to TMD.

Signs and symptoms

Symptoms of TMD Aside from jaw pain, the other signs of TMD are:  *Strong jaw pain in the morning

* Difficulty in opening and closing your mouth, in some cases you may experience a locked jaw

* Unexplained headaches and pain in your neck.

* Clicking or popping noise when you open your mouth, chew or yawn.

Treatment

Because other conditions exhibit similar symptoms, it is best to visit your dentist in Toronto who can make a correct diagnosis of your problem. Your dentist will make a thorough examination of your history and mouth to determine the cause of your symptoms.

Depending on the findings of your dentist, the following treatment options for TMD may be recommended:

* Referral to a specialist like an orthodontist to correct teeth alignment problems or a physiotherapist, chiropractor or behavioral therapist who can help ease muscle pain.

* Take pain or anti-inflammatory medicine to manage pain or relax muscles

* Wear a night guard or bite plate which prevents you from biting against your teeth. Joints and muscles around your jaw will also relax in the process..

* Referral to oral surgeon when none of the treatments work and you find it very difficult to open your jaw.

Canadians can rely on the expertise and track record of their dentist in Toronto to address TMD.

The Importance Of The 12 B Vitamin

Posted by GuestWriter on July 29th, 2010

The 12 b vitamin is one of the b vitamins which are essential to maintain a healthy entire body. Otherwise known as Cobalamin, the 12b vitamin is needed for the processes to convert the carbohydrates, fats and proteins from food into energy. 12 b also, much more importantly, helps keep the red blood cells healthy and consequently prevent heart disease and even maintaining the immune system working at its maximum level. In addition, 12 b is utilized to create the protective covering of all nerve cells within the body.

See Antler Velvet.

Probably the most important function of 12 b is to form wholesome red blood cells. However, all cells need twelve b to maintain them healthy. It may be the white blood cells, amongst others, that need 12 b to help ensure that the immune system functioning properly. All of the nerve cells in the entire body also need twelve b to form their protective fatty layer. This really is important for all of the nerves but is especially so for those within the brain. If there is not sufficient 12 b to produce this protective layer then the brain will not be functioning properly.

Interestingly, the quantity of 12 b that the body needs is relatively small but is needed on a regular basis. However, twelve b on its own is not sufficient as the entire body cannot absorb it easily. To assist the body absorb twelve b the stomach produces intrinsic element which enables much more of the twelve b to be absorbed. 12 b is only found in animal foods such as liver, eggs, fish and meat but most individuals consume far more than their recommended daily amount of twelve b. This really is not a problem as the entire body can only absorb about half with the 12 b that’s consumed. It is also worth noting that the entire body can recycle the twelve b which cuts down on the impact of a 12 b deficiency. Nevertheless, strict vegetarians or vegans are likely to require 12 b supplements if they don’t eat any animal products that contain twelve b.

If the entire body does not have sufficient twelve b then anaemia may be the most obvious symptom. Obviously, this is due to the fact that there is not sufficient twelve b to make healthy red blood cells. Anaemia can also be caused by the entire body not creating sufficient intrinsic factor to assist absorb the 12 b that’s accessible in the food consumed. The entire body tends to makes less intrinsic element once a individual reaches 50 and this will lead to much less twelve b being absorbed and supplements of 12 b might be needed. Kids are also at risk from anaemia simply because they may not eat the food that contain 12 b. Pregnant women require much more 12 b because the baby is absorbing 12 b during the pregnancy to grow properly.

People who either grind or clench their teeth while they are asleep are also classified under sleeping disorders and this particular problem is known as bruxism. Some of the side effects are chipped teeth and even more serious damage such as fractures in the enamel and a general wearing down of the mouth. Bruxism can take quite a while for the suffer to notice and by the time it is diagnosed, most often their mouths have suffered quite some damage and they need some dental work done.

A more dangerous sleep disorder is when the breathing channel or flow of oxygen to the lungs is disrupted during sleep, and this is classified as sleep apnea. The actual missed breaths are known as apneas, and some people can miss significant moments of breathing when they have this problem. More commonly what causes the sleep apnea are obstructions in the nose, as a result of coughs and chest infections, inflamed throats, and even swollen tonsils, which result from tonsillitis can contribute.

People who battle heavy sleepiness through the day light hours are usually suffering with a disorder called narcolepsy, and this is actually a neurological problem. LOSE WEIGHT AND GAIN CONFIDENCE

Posted by GuestWriter on July 26th, 2010

Losing weight is on most people’s ‘To Do’ lists.  Why can’t it be easy to do!

A negative body image isn’t the only consequence of being overweight.  Obesity can increase a person’s chances of getting heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis – to name just a few medical problems .  Many people are more concerned about fitting into their jeans than they are with fitting in a doctor’s appointment to check their cholesterol – but the reality is that tipping the scales could literally tip the scales when it comes to health . If you’re concerned about your weight, your first port-of-call should be a health care provider.

The journey is not an easy one, and there are two key elements to consider – reducing the calorie intake and doing more exercise .  Crash dieting is not a good idea as it generally results in short-term weight loss and plus it can be harmful to your health.   Remember that it’s easier for some people to lose weight than others, and that genetics do play a part in weight loss.

For moderate weight loss, an average person could reduce their daily calories by 500 and increase their daily activity to burn around the same amount.  The minimum amount of calories that should be eaten a day is around 1 200 (but should be more like 2 000 for the average male), and weekly weight loss should be limited to around a pound a week or 0.5kg.

Reducing calories can be done in many ways including eating less fat and sugar (including fruit juices, sweets, canned drinks, alcohol, cakes and biscuits) and eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and high fibre foods and drinking loads of water.

Sustained weight loss requires a commitment to exercise – which means at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise a day.  Doing stuff around the house is a good way to start – but it’s awfully dull (for example, vaccuming consumes between 150 – 350 calories an hour)  By making the activity fun and interesting, you’ll increase your chances of sticking to it and seeing the results.  But how much exercise is enough and what’s the best one to do?.

Some of the best cardio exercises for burning up calories include step aerobics, running, cycling, skipping, rowing, spinning and power walking.   These exercises burn anything from 180 to 500 calories in 30 minutes.  It’s also important to do some strength and resistance training along with the cardio to burn up more calories – plus it’s been proven to an effective strategy in weight loss.

And here’s another form of exercise which isn’t usually associated with weight loss – but it should be – and that’s martial arts.  Gym culture doesn’t appeal to everyone and it’s pretty dull exercising alone, and that’s why karate is becoming such a popular activity for fitness as well as weightloss because it’s social, fun, challenging and fulfilling.  Martial arts is generally perceived as a self-defence activity – but the reality is that it’s about aerobic fitness, physical strength, fitness and developing muscle tone, as well as developing a whole range of vital social and intellectual skills too, such as integrity, self-respect, discipline and trust.

For the average 145 pounder, 60 minutes of karate is said to burn around 650 calories.  Compare that to around 400 used up in an hour of moderate exercise on an elliptical equipment or a rowing machine.

People of all ages can benefit from practicing martial arts, says karate Australia expert, Perth-based 4th Dan Grant Rollinson, because it offers such a range of benefits from fitness, weightloss, self-defence, stress reduction, motivation and inspiration.  ”Shedding kilos and getting fit should be about much more than trying to burn up calories though.  Exercise is such a vital part of daily lives – and it’s important to find an activity that is good for the body in terms of fitness, losing or maintaining weight, strength and flexibility – and that’s good for the soul too“.

Breathing Effects On Health

Posted by GuestWriter on July 25th, 2010

Our basic health is very much affected by the way that we breathe. Various studies show that breathing relaxation is highly associated with our bodily responses, frame of mind, even the lifestyle that we’re having. It’s always been a mystery how we learn to breath. As living creatures, we were patterned to inhale and exhale with the use of our nose. But, we have the option to also do mouth breathing as we were trained to do when we were still in the watery womb of our mothers. It is also an involuntary act of the mouth, especially when in panic, to gulp air and increase breathing to supply enough for the lungs.

So, what’s real about breathing? In the truest sense, it is a mystery itself. We were all born to do it for survival’s sake. It is a voluntary response of the body and unconsciously we’re doing it every single moment of our lives. But, the harsh reality of life sometimes teaches some to develop rather worthless and inoperational breathing habits. This could be a product of stress or brought about by traumatic experiences, which negatively affects the health in return.

Many doctors proved through careful experimentation that correct breathing actually oxygenates the whole body which then enables the different organs to function efficiently. Individuals who do breathing relaxation have peaceful mind and body. They are aware of how to manage themselves and their stresses. The concept beyond this practice is that controlled breathing can actually break down salt which is a major contributor to high blood pressure, thus making a person’s blood pressure lower.

In fact breathing better is a very effortless task to perform. There are all sorts of techniques on how to improve breathing one of which is through full balanced breathing. This is performed through taking in air for the entire lungs to accommodate and extending it up to the abdominal area. The exhale should be very controlled and done in a relaxed manner. Constant pauses should be observed after every inhaling and exhaling so as to make the breathing natural and relaxed.

So, start having a better lifestyle through better breathing. It is by becoming aware of our bodily system that we become considerate of our existing condition. When surrounded by the different pressures and stresses of life, take time to pause, focus on your breathing and take few good natural breaths. Afterwards, experience the benefit of having no stress as you exhale. With these uncomplicated practices at hand, you will be very sure that your body gets the most air it needs to be and remain healthy and functioning well.

The Battle When Cramps And Pregnancy Begins!

Posted by GuestWriter on July 25th, 2010

Being pregnant could be described as being like having a 50% chance of being alive because it’s a great suffering and pain for mothers. Mothers experience a lot of biological, psychological and physiological changes for nine months and much worse at the time of delivery. It places a serious burden to the body since, while the offspring develops inside the tummy, many kinds of pains such as cramps and irritations are also experienced in the different organs. For one, it is a matter of understanding the nature of your cramps in pregnancy to identify which one is brought about specifically by your pregnancy and which one is likely to stay around for a much longer time.

In the span of an offspring’s development, the major cause that can be associated with cramps in early pregnancy is the expansion of the ligaments that encompasses and supports the uterus. The uterus broadens, thus placing all the tension on the ligaments that surrounds it. Along with the development of the foetus, the ligaments become bigger as well to accommodate the ever growing condition of the living being inside. Ligament cramps are usually felt on both sides of the stomach and back when the baby inside the womb reaches 14 to 29 weeks.

But, in cases where cramps are accompanied by profuse bleeding, this could mean something very serious because you might be at risk of having a miscarriage. Having such a result could be linked with conditions such as infections, radiation, use of unnecessary medications or genetic reasons.  If the bleeding goes together with a discharge, fever, dizziness and the like with severe cramping, this is cause for alarm and it becomes a must to see your physician in the soonest possible time.

To reduce the pain during pregnancy cramping, try to be still and relaxed as much as possible. Be very comfortable with your position and never try to do exhausting activities that will tire your body. Having a hot water bottle or a heating pad and applying it on the affected areas is an effective means to gradually eliminate the pain. Taking time for a hot shower or bath will also relax the body. Do not try to move too quickly because this may put pressure on your muscles. And most of all, drink enough fluids to keep your system going.

Pregnancy cramping should be considered as something that you may need to endure as much as bodily changes are a concern to an expectant mother. It should be treated as a positive reaction of the body because such signs pave the way towards good results such as morning sickness would do.

Glass Of Red Wine Every Day Is Good For Health

Posted by GuestWriter on July 24th, 2010

In parts of UK doctors are giving away gift vouchers for red wine at their clinics for their patients. This is a great gesture from some clinics but they are only doing this to improve their patient’s health they say. They are trying to decrease the number of heart attacks by giving these vouchers away to the patients. As some of the patients are not eating enough vegetables and fruits needed for the body on a day, we are hoping red wine will cover this as it contains fruits in it so we are giving the vouchers away for a good cause.

They are hoping people will stick to one glass of red wine per day and will not misuse the vouchers. Some of them are also giving away free promotional bottle opener of their new medical products. Well this looks like more of a marketing tactic than thinking about good health of the patients in my mind but I am not a doctor. It has been proven in the past that red wine can definitely be healthier if drank one glass per day. Doctors in USA have said that drinking one glass of red wine per day can be very healthy for the person. It has been proven in the past but we haven’t seen the live results yet.

Red wine has zero fat with good energy and carbohydrates. That is obviously going to be good for health. It is used to decreased cardiovascular events. People have said that the average wine drinkers are more likely to exercise to be health conscious other than liquor or beer drinkers. In my personal view after looking at the activities of drinkers in my family this statement is 100% accurate.

Other than that these free kitchen accessories provided by the clinics can surely come in handy for many people especially students.
