Top tips for safe cosmetic & plastic surgery

Posted by GuestWriter on March 30th, 2009

When choosing cosmetic or plastic surgery there are always some key areas of safety which you should address before considering going with a particular doctor. This is a short article describing the dos and don’ts of choosing cosmetic surgery.
Firstly, you should never choose a plastic surgery doctor solely on the basis of lower cost. After checking for certification by the UK board of Plastic Surgery and membership in the Aesthetic Society, you should entrust your face and body with whom you feel most comfortable and not simply because they are offering some ludicrous discount. Plastic Surgery is performed safely when in an accredited office which is known for its high levels of hygiene and safety. Or on the other hand, you might find that some practitioners perform their surgery in a local hospital which is just as safe. If your surgery will be performed outside of a local hospital then be sure to check that your doctor has privileges to perform the same procedure in a respectable hospital. Because if they don’t you may find that they have either been banned or they are not qualified to perform the procedure. In that case I would not recommend having your procedure done with that doctor under any circumstance. By selecting an ASAPS-member surgeon for your cosmetic surgery, you can be rest assured that he or she qualifies for such privileges as performing operations in government hospitals. So, that is definitely worth checking.
In general, if you can tell that your surgeon is not interested in you as a person rather than your cosmetic surgery procedure then it is kind of obvious that he is more interested in the money rather than looking out for your best interests. Sometimes, if the procedure costs a little more money then it may be worth it considering that you may get a really good quality service which is so important in this type of business.

Posted by GuestWriter on March 29th, 2009

Celebrity Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery has become some what of a hugely popular trend in recent years. The cost for any type of Plastic surgery has been lowered a huge amount and now more than ever people have enough money to get the surgery they want, where this is a nose job or breast surgery.

But a lot of people have just gone over the top, some people have so much money that they dont know what to do with it. A little Cosmetic Surgery is definitely acceptable in this day and age as people want to look their best, but when you have it month after month it does literally make you look like you are plastic. So let’s take a look at some of the people that have gone way over the top in this video.

Scarlett Johansson
Did this this lady really need surgery? Just viewing the video above shows that this lady is naturally beautiful, so why go and ruin it?

Gwyneth Paltrow (Movie Star)
Again some one that really did not have to have any modifications to her face.

Jordan and Pamela Anderson
Both of these girls had naturally plump breasts in the first place, I mean why go so big? Who will take these people seriously when they have such huge breasts?

Michael Jackson
We all know and hear about every single week and month how much Michael Jackson does not admit he has had any plastic surgery, but just viewing his image proves that fact wrong.

The above information is a brief look at some of the celebrities. It just proves the fact that artificial beauty is just not as good as natural. Surgery seems to be ok in small doses but just keep it at a minimal.

Can Neck Pain and Whiplash be helped by Chiropractic Care?

Posted by GuestWriter on March 29th, 2009

Neck Adjustments

Introduction

Our pillow, bed, or sleep position is not always the reason for our stiff and painful neck when we arise in the morning. We also make an effort to figure out what is taking place when we move our neck suddenly and feel a sharp pain that feels as if something has suddenly slipped out of position or is pinching a “nerve.” Though it may seem so, one isolated occurrence is rarely the cause of most neck problems, but instead the cumulative effects of incorrect sitting posture, poor work and lifestyle habits, and lack of beneficial exercise for strength and flexibility. Naturally, some neck problems are due to traumatic events such as a whiplash accident, a fall, or a sports injury.

Anatomy

To understand neck pain, it is necessary to have knowledge of the anatomy of the spine. The movement of the spine is guided by neck vertebrae that are comprised of posterior joints, called facets, that connect vertebrae to one another. The inter-vertebral discs link the bodies of the vertebrae and are comprised of a form of strong cartilage that covers a soft material in the center, called the nucleus. The discs act as shock absorbers and spacers between the vertebrae. The spinal cord is positioned between the facets of the vertebrae. Spinal nerves exit the spine between the vertebrae and supply energy to muscles and organs of the body. Transversely, they carry sensory impulses, including pain information, from the body to the brain.  The nerves that leave from the neck are assigned to the entire upper extremity including the shoulder, elbow and hand, as well as structures of the head and neck. The neck has a natural forward curve when looked at from the side that helps correctly balance the weight of the head, as well as to decrease stress on the neck joints. For more information please feel free to visit your Colorado Springs Chiropractor.

Risk Factors: Neck Pain and Computer Use

Computer use has risen significantly over the years, at home and in the workplace. Nowadays, a substantial amount of people spend eight to ten hours a day, or more, bent over a keyboard and staring at a monitor. Sitting with the head in a forward bent position (the posture most computer users take on), puts enormous strain on neck ligaments and muscles. In addition, the normal forward curve of the neck becomes reversed causing more stress upon all the surrounding tissues of the neck. All of this can lead to spinal problems including disc herniation and subluxations, which are the main causes of spinal nerve pain. In addition to general pain, spinal nerve inflammation in the neck can generate symptoms including headaches, eye problems, giddiness, arm and hand pain (and paraesthesia), as well as shoulder pain.

Headaches and Chiropractic Care

Headaches or migraines are usually associated with disorders of the cervical spine. When the cervical vertebrae lose their natural position or motion, sensitive nerves and blood vessels that are connected with structures in the head are stretched or agitated thus causing symptoms from a dull ache to throbbing pain. In many conditions the tight knots in the muscles of the neck, called trigger points, can also refer pain to the head.  Many other factors are associated with headaches such as toxic fumes, certain foods, additives such as MSG, alcohol, caffeine, and stress. Still one must always look at the tissues and alignment of the neck when contemplating the cause of headaches and migraines. Chiropractic care has been shown to extremely helpful in the treatment of headaches. Your Colorado Springs Chiropractor can give you further information regarding treatment and pain relief.

Whiplash and Chiropractic Care

Many people are involved in car accidents. By far the most common auto accident is when one car collides into the rear-end of another car. During such an accident, the passenger in the front vehicle gets his or her head forcefully jolted backward and then forward causing harm to the structures of the back and front of the neck. This type of injury is often called a whiplash. Even at low speeds, the amount of force arising from such an accident is very strong and can cause trauma to the ligaments, muscles, facet joints, discs, and spinal nerves. Along with neck pain and immobility, symptoms such as headaches, nausea, vertigo, arm and shoulder pain, tingling in the hands and fingers and weakness of the arm and hand are associated with whiplash injury. It is vital to get immediate evaluation and x-rays to rule out the possibility of fracture. Usually in many cases, the injuries are mainly to the soft tissues and joints. Proper treatment is vital in recovery from the pain and symptoms of whiplash, and also to prevent future disability. Your Colorado Springs Chiropractor is educated to understand whiplash injury, and is more than capable of managing the case from injury to recovery.

The Firm Stomach Workout

Posted by GuestWriter on March 28th, 2009

When beginning an abdominal workout routine, for most people who ask the question of how to get six packs - the goal is simple: getting a flatter stomach fast. While a fit stomach looks great, it’s less of an accomplishment if your belly muscles haven’t got stronger. In addition to slimming down around the outer abdominals, it is also important to build strength in the core abdominals. Below are some stomach exercises that work out the core to build strong muscles throughout the abdomen, and will help you get 6 pack abs in no time.

The Tone Your Torso Workout
Start this abs routine on all fours, knees and hands on the floor. Keep your belly pulled in and lengthen your left arm out in front of you. Keep this arm outstretched as you extend your right leg out behind you. Switch arms and legs, and repeat for an entire set. Take particular care not to let your pelvis sway out of position.

Butt Burner
You will need to lie flat on your back for this routine. Make use of a mat or towel to support your spine. Bend your knees so your feet are flat on the floor, and position your arms at your sides. Squeeze your buttocks as you lift your pelvis off the floor. Keep the rest of your body in line. Raise up your pelvis to around 45 degrees, so your torso from your head to your knees makes a straight ramp. Hold this for 3 to 5 seconds before gradually lowering your pelvis to the floor. Repeat for a complete set.

The Crunchless Crunch
This stomach exercise is fairly simple in theory but can be fairly difficult to perform. Essentially, it involves trying to pull the belly button in towards the spine. This can be difficult, as it means using muscles which you may not be used to utilising. To start, either lie on your stomach or kneel. You may like to try both ways, and ascertain which helps you feel the exercise better. Relax your body as much as possible, then try to use only the lower abdominals to move your belly button toward your spine. Hold for ten secs. If this feels good, hold for a little longer. The aim is to hold the contraction until you either can’t feel it, or you feel your other muscles working harder than the transverse abdominus. When you feel this, let out the contraction.

The Scissor Kick
This stomach routine also requires laying down on the floor. Put your hands under your bottom, keeping your back against the floor. Slowly raise up 1 leg to a height of about 10 inches, then gradually lower it back to the floor. As your raise one leg, lower the other. Repeat this motion for an entire set. Maintaining control throughout is important, not allowing momentum to get the better of you. Your torso should stay on the floor throughout the whole move.

These are just a sample of the many strength building abs exercises out there. If you’re hoping to build strength in your midriff, look for exercises that workout your core, particularly the transverse abdominal muscles. Many components of Pilates are good for this as well, and make getting 6 pack abs easy.

Winehouse spends time with spa treatments

Posted by GuestWriter on March 26th, 2009

Everyone will know the singer Amy Winehouse from the constant press that she has received over the past four or so years. Constant boozing and drug taking, Amy Winehouse has equally been known for her extravagant lifestyle and her incredible singing voice.
She is most recently known for another particular habit. Spending lots and lots of money on spa treatments. Amy has recently splashed out a staggering six thousand pounds on massages and facials during her stay at the exclusive Le Sport spa hotel in St Lucia. The hotel’s spa offers detox and rejuvenation programmes as well as exotic facials with flowers, herbs and even yogurt. This is so much more different from any London spas that she may of been use to and the fact that she is out in the sun all day recovering for her excessive life style is warming for her soul. Before she went to this hotel spa resort her body was covered in sores and a very serious bout of impetigo caused half of her face to swell up. Now however she is at least on the right tracks to some form of recovery. She definitely looks a lot healthier.
The young pop sensation has also recently announced that she has given up her well known and un-healthy diet of ten crunchie bars a day, orange lucozade and burgers for loads of fresh fruit and fish. The St. Lucia hotel manager Andrew Barnard said: “We had Amy on a diet and exercise programme as she really was not well when she arrived here earlier in the year. But now she is much more mentally and physically stronger than ever before. The hotel in St.Lucia has completely boomed in popularity recently, people are calling up on a daily basis about vacancies that they may have this summer. The hotel has also decided to hand out spa gifts for anyone who is staying with them from January to June this year.

Tick bites and the possibility of contracting Lyme disease

Posted by GuestWriter on March 25th, 2009

Huge tick

The other day I heard that a friend of mine had actually been ill for months and what was the cause of this illness ……… a tick!

It appears that way back in the summer she had been out for a country walk and unbeknown to her she must have inadvertently picked up a tick. I am told they are often found close to where deers graze and these were very commonplace in this area.

Some weeks later she started to feel really ill with unexplained weakness in her limbs and terrible fatigue. She was eventually admitted to hospital and finally diagnosed after many tests with Lyme disease.

This is a bacterial infection which can be passed to humans by ticks as they feed on your blood. If left with out treatment it can infect the heart, joints and nervous system.

Apparently they are very small sometimes just the size of a poppy seed and can be easily missed. If a tick is found and taken off quickly there is a very low risk of infection. A bite will just look like a small lump with a scab on the skin at the site of the bite. Then usually a rash develops in the shape of a ring and this indicates a sign of infection. There are other signs including headache, lethargy, joint pain and flu symptoms.

This can often last weeks or even longer and sometimes they can even occur several years later. This is why early detection will help to ease the symptoms and then shorten the illness.

The Health Protection Agency reported 768 cases of Lyme disease throughout the UK in 2006. This figure could definitely increase as the tick population is on the getting bigger. The peak times for tick bites are in the late spring, summer and autumn.

It is really important to be aware of the these signs and be vigilant especially where children are concerned when on country walks. If however you are unfortunate enough to have a problem with ticks there are expert pest control companies who will able to give advice as to the best pest repeller for this problem.

MBT Shoes used by medical pros to alleviate foot problems

Posted by GuestWriter on March 24th, 2009

A comfortable, “pro body shoe” is on the market. Actually, MBT footwear prefers to call them the “Anti-shoe.” Why the Anti-Shoe? Because the human body was not originally designed to wear shoes. Shoes have flattened the terrain and unknowingly cause the human race to struggle with back, knee and hip problems due to ineffective and poorly designed shoes.

The human foot was designed to walk on unstable ground. These were shoes inspired by the Masai Tribe of Africa. This tribe emulates a regal posture and limited back and joint pain, all attributed to consistently walking on uneven surfaces. Engineers at MBT shoes took this basic concept and turned it into Masai Barefoot Technology, i.e. MBT Shoes. These shoes then become the Anti-Shoe based on the premise that they are designed to recreate the feeling of standing barefoot on uneven ground.

All the pressure points hit, while walking barefoot, are simulated in the unique round sole MBT Shoe design. These shoes designed with a negative heel, actually work more muscle groups to a greater degree over better joint and back relief by building the surrounding muscles. In fact, with MBT shoes, the buttock region is worked 9% more than regular shoes. The rear thigh muscle activity increases by 19%. The lower limbs receive 18% more activity all while reducing the stress on the knee joints by 19%. The result of casually working these muscles increases abdominal strength and in turn better posture.

MBT shoes also offer benefits for those whose job requires a significant amount of time on their feet. The shoes work muscle groups while relieving joint pain and back stress. MBT shoes offers a variety of styles all featuring the unique MBT technology. Shoes range from sport shoes, casual wear, professional wear and even a select styles of boots. According to the MBT website (http://www.swissmasaius.com), these shoes are best for walking, fitness walking and light jogging.

Many medical professionals use MBT shoes to accelerate recovery and relieve various types of foot, leg, and back pain ailments. For athletes, MBT shoes are used for conditioning training, as well as prevention of injuries and recovery. Although the look of MBT Shoes are quite uncoventional based on their regular shoe counterpart, the benefits these shoes offer far outweigh the concern of being, “unconventional.” Customers report having purchased a pair of MBT Shoes and “never looking back.” Fashion does not have to hurt. Sauna Health Benefits - How Using A Sauna Might Improve Your Health

Posted by GuestWriter on March 23rd, 2009

Many enthusiasts claim that sauna health benefits include relief from arthritis, headaches, colds, hangovers and many other ailments.

There’s some truth about many claims, but there are also many exaggerated claims. Still, there appears to be some evidence that suggests there are real health benefits you can gain from “sweating it out” in a sauna.

Sweating & Health

We live in a very sedentary age and many people just don’t sweat enough. That only highlights the importance of taking saunas and steam baths.

Sweating is as important to your health as eating and breathing. Yes, it is that important.

Without sweating, your skin pores become clogged up by stuff like artificial environments, antiperspirants, smog, etc.

Many health and wellness professionals agree that heavy sweating in a sauna will help rid your body of harmful waste material.

I’ve even read that some physicians recommend home saunas to supplement kidney machines because sweating is such an effective detoxifier.

Depending on the individual, about a liter of sweat can be excreted during a 15-minute sauna.

Heat Effects On Various Systems & Organs

Kidneys. During sweating, blood is sent away from your kidneys and toward your body’s surface. This can help unburden your kidneys and help remove toxins through sweating.

Liver. Congestion of blood in your liver is reduced while you take a sauna. This may strengthen your liver’s detoxification ability.

Cardiovascular System. During a sauna, both your pulse and stroke volume increase. Surface vessels dilate as blood is shunted from your internal organs to the surface.

Repeated sauna use may help decrease elevated blood pressure by enhancing elasticity of your arteries, removing toxins from your kidneys and helping to reduce excessive sympathetic nervous system activity.

Immune System. Heating your body several degrees may boost white blood cell activity and destroy microorganisms that are heat sensitive.

Nervous System. Using a sauna inhibits your sympathetic nervous system while strengthening your parasympathetic nervous system. This means a sauna has a strong calming effect on your nervous system.

Detoxification - An important sauna health benefit

You’ve probably read that saunas are good for detoxification.

First of all, heating your body several degrees dramatically increases circulation.

According to Dr. Lawrence Wilson, this helps remove toxins from some hard to reach places like bones, sinuses, and teeth.

Many forms of bacteria are heat sensitive, so the heat from a sauna can weaken or kill some of them.

Also, cells damaged by toxic metals and chemicals are weaker than healthier cells. Exposure to some intense heat may be a death sentence for those weaker cells.

Sweating

Sweating is a great method for removing toxins.

Many substances eliminated through your kidneys can be eliminated through your skin instead. In this way, sweating helps relieve your kidneys.

In case you’re wondering, sweating from exercise is not the same as sweating in a sauna (or steam room).

First of all, saunas conserve your body’s energy by providing an external source of heat. This leaves more energy for detoxification.

Second, sweating caused by exercise activates your sympathetic nervous system. This reduces the activity of your eliminative organs (liver, kidneys, colon).

Parasympathetic Nervous System Enhancement

Stress from any source increases sympathetic nervous system activity.

For the best detoxification results, your body should be as parasympathetic (or relaxed) as possible. Why?

Parasympathetic activity stimulates your liver, kidneys, and other organs to help eliminate toxins.

Deep Tissue Penetration

Infrared saunas in particular heat tissues from the inside. Some researchers believe this inside-out heating assists with deep tissue detoxification.

Conclusion

I hope this article helped shed more light about the subject of sauna health benefits.

If you have any health conditions, please talk with your doctor before using saunas on a regular basis.

Relief for Your Stomachache

Posted by GuestWriter on March 23rd, 2009

Who among us has not had an unpleasant experience with eating to much? Stomach ache, and other digestion problems, is something we do not enjoy. But, failing to avoid such problems, we will welcome anything that offers fast relief!

Carbonated water eases the symptoms of some forms of stomach complications, as well as easing constipation. This is something that I had to learn the hard way, which, unfortunately, is usually how my lessons are learned.

The main symptom of stomach problems that I have is feeling bloated from fullness in the upper abdominal region after overeating; admittedly, overeating is something I do a lot. I normally just suffer until I started working for a man who would always take water and baking soda whenever he had these symptoms. One day, feeling really miserable, I tried his remedy; soon, I felt much, much better.

So, I did some research to learn why this works so well. This was long before antacid medications were sold over the counter (OTC) and also long before people could run to the doctor with every ache, or stomach ailment, or pain. Basically, adding baking soda with water produces carbon dioxide gas with bubbles; somehow the bubbles and the ingredients form a solution that aids the movement of the digestive tract, relieving some of the complications from overeating – that bloated feeling goes away.

This adding baking soda and water actually forms which has been used for years to treat digestive complaints, yet no research exists if it is effective or how it works. I did find some information about studies showing that both the bubbles of carbon dioxide and the presence of high minerals can make a positive difference to the digestive process. This, basically, is what I was making with baking soda and water. There was no other information on whether it is the mineral-rich carbonate water or the bubbles that are more effective.

I found some suggestions for stopping these problems before they develop, such as: reduce eating a lot of fat; avoiding foods that cause your stomach problems; eating smaller meals; and if you smoke, stopping as soon as possible. Also everyone should drink a healthy amount of fluids to maintain movement of your GI tract and counter constipation.

I read about some devices to make homemade carbonated water, which you can use for drinking. By adding a number of flavors, this seems to be a great option for drinks instead of regular soda pop, especially if you want to avoid the calories. If you make this homemade drink with water rich in minerals, you have made a very healthy and low calorie drink, called sparkling water, which is good for your whole family. A large assortment of calorie free flavors to flavor sparkling water to great taste is sold at allfreight.com.

What I know from personal experience is this: if you have overeaten but feel absolutely miserable and must work for the rest of the day, carbonated water does help.
