People with Type 1 Diabetes need a glucometer

Posted by GuestWriter on December 5th, 2009

When someone has diabetes, they essentially are having a problem where their body is unable to produce enough insulin and they need to monitor and control their sugars themselves. Firstly, there are two types of people with diabetes - Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes. Having injections using needles is the main way a person with Type 1 Diabetes controls and lowers their sugar levels. Type 2 Diabetics are able to control their blood sugars by pills and excercise alone, although they do sometimes need to use Insulin as well when the sugar gets out of control. To know which type of diabetes you have, you will need to get a proper diagnosis by a doctor or physician.

So now we know that a diabetic needs to control their sugar levels. To find out what level their blood sugars are at, whether high or low, a diabetic uses a glucometer to get a blood sugar reading. Work coverage may help you get a free glucometer if you cannot afford to buy it yourself after finding out you have diabetes. The way a glucose meter works is that the person testing their sugar levels pricks their finger with a lancet device. A lancet device is essentially a small needle ready to pierce the skin slightly to draw blood. The drop of blood would be put onto a blood strip that has been put into their glucose meter. Normally in about five seconds, or even up to a minute depending on the meter, you will get a reading telling you what your sugar levels are at.

The glucose meter is essential for a diabetic to own so they can test regularly. If you don’t test your blood sugars, problems can occur if an incorrect dosage of their medication is given including low sugars and seizures. With the price on meters nowadays it has definately got more affordable. You may also find certain brands offering you a free glucometer if you buy the accompanying test strips. They do this as they make money from the actual purchase of the test strips, so give you incentive of a free monitor to make you buy their brand over the next competitor. Some more information for finding a free glucometer can be found at http://www.freeglucometer.info/.

Posted by GuestWriter on December 2nd, 2009

There are things to consider when buying cushions besides the fact that it looks beautiful. This articles highlights some of the things that you have to bear in mind when purchasing cushions.

It is quite easy and alright to walk into the nearest furniture shop and pick up the cheapest set of cushions that you come across. The question is will the cushions fit in with everything else that is in the home. The reason that I say you should consider carefully your cushions is because they are incorporated under kitchen remodeling and decorative ideas.

Check out anyone of these for some really great looking cushions: best cushions for lower back pain, cool-or-heat seat cushion, lawn seat cushions

If you are going to buying cheap cushions then let me tell you of the implications of what that means. The material used on these cushions is not strong, the padding is thin and the quality is not something you can rely on. One thing that I can tell you is that you will be replacing them much sooner than you were expecting.

Investing in quality cushions means that you know they will last you longer and will be more comfortable. Let me just quickly point out a few things you should note when you are choosing the right chair cushions.

Size is something that you should not overlook or underestimated. Small cushions will not fit nicely and make for uncomfortable sitting. Find out if the material on the cushions is stain resistant or not. If they are not; you can always treat them yourself with stain guard for easy washing and maintenance.

Also choose cushions that are made of a durable fabric that is strong and resistant. Some fabrics that you might consider are canvas denim and corduroy. When choosing the right chair cushions, look for ones that have removable covers. These are just a few of things that you could look out for even though there are more.

The Phases of H1N1 Virus

Posted by GuestWriter on December 1st, 2009

Brought to you by click here to get free health insurance quotes.

A process that happens if two different types of influenza virus infected a single cell and it can produce a new strain of influenza is called re-assortment.  It will act as a “mixing vessel” in which re-assortment can occur between flu viruses of several species such as pigs are prone to influenza viruses that can also infect both humans and birds.  This is because if the virus allows pieces of RNA from different viruses to mix together and form a novel type of virus as a new virus particles are being assembled from a virus splitting between eight independent pieces of RNA.

On the other hand, the World Health Organization raised the pandemic alert level from phase four to phase five, signaling that a pandemic is “imminent”.

To know more about different phases of Swine Flu as defined by the WHO, I enlisted six of them” defined by the WHO:

If a virus circulated among animals but there are no reported cases of infections to humans will fall under phase one.  An example of this phase is an outbreak of flu symptoms in your hog race backyard. In phase two there is an identified animal flu virus and caused infections to human, and it will be considered a potential pandemic threat.

An example is when the owner either the child or an adult within the hog race backyard got infected with a flu from their animal symptoms. Phase 3 specified that a confirmed animal or human-animal flu virus has caused small outbreaks in human race, but has not resulted in human-to-human transmission that is sufficient to sustain community-level outbreaks. An example in this phase is when a child within the hog race backyard got infected together with his father, his mother and his siblings.

Radically in Phase 4, there is a cause of community-level outbreaks of human-to-human transmission of an animal or human-animal flu virus.  This phase will focus to contain the spreading of the virus.  The United Nations will then inform different countries asking to advice their people such as traveling to containment areas.  All countries with infected with the Swine Flu must also consider in deploying a pandemic vaccine. An example of this when the infected family member went out from their backyard decided to talk to his friends and unaware that he’s spreading the virus.

In the 5th phase, if there are at least two countries in one region and spread the virus by means of human-to-human transmission.  The signal of the pandemic is imminently strong.  The infected countries are required to advise people with respiratory illnesses to stay home.  There should be an advisory of suspension of classes.  An example of this is when a man-infected virus either a family member or any of his friends travel to another neighboring country.

The sixth and final phase also called the pandemic phase.  A pandemic phase is just like a spread of virus in phase 5 but extended at least one other country outside their geographic region.  There must be an implementation of contingency plans of health systems in all levels.  An example of this is when a man-infected virus travel to another continent.

Whatever phases of Swine Flu Virus outbreak, we are experiencing in our country or geographic region we must prepare and prevent it to spread to lessen the death toll.
